Saint-Martin de Ré

Saint-Martin de Ré is only 10 minutes from La Perle de Ré.

A citadel fortified by Vauban with star-shaped ramparts, Saint Martin was the "capital" of the island. Its almost intact ramparts were classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2008. Saint Martin attracts many visitors seduced by the animation of its port and the charm of its small streets where you can admire the facades of many houses. masters very often converted into charming hotels.

From the top of the church tower, you can discover a magnificent panorama of the sea, the port, the Hôtel de Clerjotte which houses the Ernest Cognac museum and, in good weather, La Tranche-sur-Mer in Vendée. Saint Martin is still home to a working prison. In the past, prisoners sentenced to prison were all gathered there waiting to board the boat “La Martinière” bound for Guyana. At the Parc de la Barbette, you can offer children a ride on the back of Donkeys in panties.
